Apple’s white iPhone 4 to be seen at the end of APRIL, FINALLY…
Apr 15th
Apple repeatedly delayed the product in 2010, citing manufacturing issues. Last October, the company announced that the white iPhone 4 would not arrive until spring 2011.
The extended delay of the white iPhone 4 has prompted speculation that Apple will hold off on releasing a redesigned iPhone this summer. Numerous rumors have now suggested that Apple will instead release the so called iPhone 5 this fall, with one report suggesting that Apple would not release a next-generation iPhone until after Apple’s fiscal 2012 begins in late September.
A new report claims that Apple will finally begin selling the white iPhone 4 by the end of April after having resolved manufacturing challenges that resulted in a 10-month delay.
Citing people familiar with Apple’s plans, Bloomberg reported Wednesday that the white iPhone is almost ready for launch on both AT&T and Verizon, corroborating an earlier report from AppleInsider that the device would launch in April.
The white model may help spur demand as Apple works on the next generation of its top- elling product. Apple, the world’s largest technology company by market value, isn’t planning to announce a new iPhone at its June developers’ conference, breaking with its practice in past years, two people familiar with the matter said. It may instead introduce the next iPhone in September, according to Mike Abramsky, an analyst at RBC Capital Markets in Toronto.
The white iPhone 4 was originally supposed to come out shortly after the black iPhone 4 debuted in June of last year, but it has been repeatedly delayed due to issues with light leaking through the glass plate and onto the camera sensor. Since the introduction of the first iPod media player in 2001, white has been a popular colour for Apple’s gadgets. The earlier iPhone 3GS model was available in white, as is the iPad 2, which went on sale last month.

Hauppauge PCTV Broadway 2T wireless TV transmission to iPad, iPhone, Mac and PC…
Apr 14th
Access your favourite TV shows LIVE through your iPhone and iPad, from anywhere in the world, this is what we can say it in the short about the “Hauppauge PCTV Broadway 2T device”. The Broadway 2T is basically a standalone device which connects to your wired or wireless network (WIFI). The Broadway is 802.11n wireless and contains dual DVB-T tuners to enable streaming of a TV signal to a host device either over a home network or the internet, and hence to any corner in the world. The 2T also has USB and video inputs so you can stream video from a USB device or set top box not to mention connecting an analog camera to create a remote home surveillance solution system viewable on an iPad or iPhone.
The Broadway 2T allows you to redirect your home TV and personal video content to your iPhone, iPad, netbook, notebook or Mac computer anywhere in the world. When mobile, your TV and content is accessed via your web browser. No third party apps or additional purchases are needed.
Just how the media measurement companies intend to deal with devices such as the Broadway 2T will be interesting to watch. Expats the world over might be watching local television in their home country on their internet devices in foreign countries, but their patronage will be irrelevant to most of the advertisers who are paying for that audience. It’s not a problem yet, but it looks like becoming that way quite soon as media footprints lose their definition.
When mobile, your TV and content is accessed via your web browser. The 2T will also enable remote control of home content such as scheduling recordings and playing pre-recorded content. The Broadway 2T utilises 802.11n wireless as stated above and its sophisticated MPEG-4 H.264 hardware compression codec ensure minimal demand on mobile device battery life.

iPad and iPhone to go 3D, Glass-less using position tracking…???
Apr 13th
An iPad pulling off some great 3-D visual tricks that you don’t need special 3D glasses to view them. Its basically an application running on an iPad 2 that uses the front facing camera to track the position of the user’s head and thus generate a glasses free monocular 3D display. And the technology is in its early stages now.
French researchers Jeremie Francone and Laurence Nigay from the Grenoble Informatics Laboratory have posted a video demonstrating an application running on an iPad 2 that uses the front-facing camera to track the position of the user’s head and thus generate a glasses-free monocular 3-D display.
Yeah, their application doesn’t use the accelerometer in the iPad but instead follows user’s movements kind of like the Kinect controller does. And the implications for gaming are clear. We could be playing glasses free 3D games on our iPads and iPhones in the not too distant future.
And speaking of Nintendo when comparing to this, the game company recently launched its own 3D game machine a gadget that plays games in 3-D without needing the users to wear glasses. Nintendo, no doubt, went this 3-D route in an effort to deliver a gaming experience that iPhones and iPads couldn’t.
The duo says they were inspired by the work of Johnny Chung Lee, who showed off a similar glasses-free head tracking demonstration on the Nintendo Wii several years ago.
If it manages to make its way outside of the research phase, the technology could open up the door for glasses-free 3D gaming, 3D model viewing and more on standard device screens. It would also accelerate the push to 3D, which is currently limited by clunky glasses and expensive glasses-free 3D screens.
Whatever it is, when the entire world is marching towards 3D world… This iPad, iPhone, Nintendo and many other devices lineup with 3D making it closer….
SteadyCam Pro Application provides real time image stabilization for iPhone videos
Apr 8th
Now to speak about the SteadyCam Pro for iPhone, We can start it in this way, actually, the video capture capabilities found in today’s mobile phones has made it easier than ever to record those priceless memories whenever and wherever they may occur. However, one of the downsides to cramming a video camera into such a small device is the lack of stability that often results in videos that look like they were shot the morning after a big night. With a full-blown steadycam rig probably not the best solution for smoothing out things on the go, Midnox has created an application that provides real-time image stabilization for the iPhone 4.
The SteadyCam Pro application is compatible with iPhone 4′s running iOS 4.1 or later. It’s shake reducing magic comes courtesy of some advanced signal processing algorithms, which can apparently also correct for the rolling shutter that produces distorted shots of fast moving objects due to the fact that each frame recorded by the iPhone isn’t from a single point in time, but is recorded by scanning across the frame. A free trial version of the application that lets users record 15 seconds worth of footage and stamps a watermark on captured footage also provides the opportunity to try before you buy.

Apple hires 12,600 in one year
Nov 2nd
Well known for its innovative product lines — iPhones, iPods, Mac computers and iPad — Apple saw its headcount rise 34 per cent to 49,400 in the year ended September 25. In the comparable period, the same was at 36,800.
“As of September 25, 2010, the company had approximately 46,600 full-time equivalent employees and an additional 2,800 full-time equivalent temporary employees and contractors,” the filing said.
The substantial increase in the employee strength came at a time when the Steve Jobs-led entity saw its annual revenues soar to USD 65.23 billion.
In the year-ended September 26, 2009, Apple had 34,000 full-time employees and an additional 2,500 temporary employees and contractors.
Apple’s recruited thousands of employees at a time when many companies worldwide were either trimming their staff strength or going slow on hiring activities.
According to the filing, the rise in headcount also pushed its Research & Development (R&D) expenses in the year ended September 25.
“R&D expense increased 34 per cent or USD 449 million to USD 1.8 billion in 2010 as compared to 2009. This increase was due primarily to an increase in headcount and related expenses in current year to support expanded R&D activities,” it noted.
Stressing that the company is facing aggressive competition, Apple said that focused investments in R&D is critical to its future growth.
A few thoughts concerning Apple rumors
Oct 23rd
Oh dear, today is a rough day for the cottage blogging industry that has sprung up around Apple’s every move and non-move. Just a few hours ago Apple Zen master Steve Jobs ripped into the idea of 7″ tablets, putting to untimely death several thousand blog posts that had been written on the possibility of a 7″ iPad coming down the pipe.
So where does that leave us? We are now left with tens of thousands of wasted words that were published concerning ”rumors” and “leaks” that were constantly ”heating up” surrounding the existence of a 7″ iPad, possibly coming “this holiday season.” Just go ask Google how much was written on the topic.
For all the consumers who are now disappointed, we apologize for the world of blogging. We didn’t cover the 7″ iPad rumor here at TNW, but we do touch on Apple rumors on the occasion, and so I feel it fair to tell you a few of the guidelines that we keep in mind when reading through the Apple rumor mill. Let’s get into it.
Analysts Are Lying
This is actually truer than it sounds, but in regards to Apple rumors the analysts are nearly always wrong. There are a few Apple analysts who are better than others, but their job is to stay in the media and that means they have to speak loudly. Don’t have anything to say? Claim that Apple has sold 5 billion iPads and that the iHeart medical tool is just around the corner! Your source in ‘Asia’ told you so!
That is slightly unfair, but if you don’t recognize the name of the quoted analyst or who they work for, run.
Small Apple Blogs Are Fighting For Relevance
As we mentioned, there are a fistful of blogs covering Apple and that leads to fierce competition to get the best news first. That applies to rumors as well, and often it seems that the smaller (and therefore scrappier) Apple centric blogs will play faster and looser with hard evidence, fact, and the like to make a bang and get noticed.
This is not to say that most small Apple blogs are not perfectly honest and fair, but it is something to keep in mind when only one blog has a land mine of a story and none of their bigger competition will touch it.
Apple Is Not Perfect
They do slip up and things do leak. This is just to say that some people actually do have the ear of numerous people in Cupertino. People like Gruber of DaringFireball have good connections, so when they mention something you can give it more weight than you would from anyone else.
News Consistency From The Bottom Up
Check the rumor from all sources that are writing about it. Are they all covering the same nugget that someone else wrote, that is to ask are they just regurgitating the post? Or is there perhaps new information developing along the way, showing multiple sources from the bottom up? It matters if a story is confirmed or not, but you have to be careful to track just what is going on.
Trust The Big Dogs
If the WSJ writes that the iPhone is coming to Verizon, you can bet lunch on it. As you well know newspapers are rarely in the rumor business, and when they devote inches, especially print inches, to a news story then that is as close to concrete as you can hope for aside from an Apple press release.
Talk Plausible To Me, Baby
Above all, does the rumor make any damn sense? The 7″ iPad rumor did not, and it never found real grit to back up the babble, leading to a self-sustaining train wreck: people started to cover it because other people had covered because other people had covered it, not because it was true.
There, now go forth and read Apple rumors with the discerning eye.
War – Nokia N96 vs Apple iPhone
Oct 1st
We realise that we have been going on and on about the iPhone and the Nokia N96, but thats all what we can do since this is our job and specially when the two iconic phones launched together in the same week in India.
Price Comparision:
The Nokia N96 will cost you around Rs. 36,000 while the Apple iPhone 3G with 8GB memory will cost Rs. 31000 and 16GB about Rs. 36,100. On price points even though they are hugely expensive we give them equal rank.
SMS Forwarding, FM Radio:
These two features are the darling of any mobile phone user in India. Since Texting messaging is really cheap in this part of the world forwarding SMSes is a very normal thing for all users. FM Radio is the life of people whilst traveling this is your one source of entertainment on the roads of the Indian metro cities. The lack of both these features on the iPhone is a big minus as far as its Indian market is concerned.
Battery Life:
Nokia N96 wins on this hands down. There have been lots of problems with the battery drainage of the Apple iPhone and these don’t seem to stop. You will have to charge your phone everyday or twice a day for that matter if you are a heavy user.
GPS:
This is not a huge factor for the Indian market, but still a talking point. On the GPS front Nokia again wins this pretty easily.
Video Calling:
Video calling is not possible on the iPhone and the Nokia N96 is pretty good at it.
Data Transfer and Bluetooth usage:
A major , major talking point regarding the iPhone. The bluetooth on the iPhone can only be used for hands-free calling. No data transfer allowed between handsets or even with a computer with bluetooth enabled.
Storage:
You thought the storage factor will play in for the iPhone ? That isn’t true. The Nokia N96 comes with 16GB of internal storage plus you have the luxury of adding a 8GB memory card giving you a whopping storage of 24GB. The iPhone again loses here.
Design:
There is no beating the iPhone, as simple as that!
All in all, if you are looking for more bang for the buck, go for the Nokia N96. Lookwise and as a fashion symbol, we still say there is no beating the iPhone!
