GPS makes perfect sense in a rugged camera. When you’ve taken snaps in the sea or up a mountainside, it’s great to be able to plot them on a map when you get home. A GPS radio isn’t enough for the FT3, though – it also has an altimeter, barometer and compass. The altimeter produced some strange results, claiming that Alexandra Palace was 13 metres below sea level, but the compass worked perfectly regardless of which angle we held the camera. The DMC-FT3 features a built-in GPS unit. The location data where the photo was taken is embedded with its latitude and longitude is automatically in the EXIF data. These geo-tagged images can be pinpointed on the maps of social media internet maps. The DMC-FT3 also shows the name of the county, state, city, and landmarks using the internal data to give you real-time information of the place when taking photos. Images with the location names are automatically sorted in the virtual folder alphabetically in the camera allowing quick reach.
The 3D Photo Mode produces a 3D image in the camera. Take 20 panning shots and the camera automatically selects two most suitable images to synthesize a 3D composite. The 3D image can be viewed in 3D via the 3D Image Viewer of Panasonic VIERA TV offering you a whole new exciting experience. In iA Mode, the Motion Deblur Mode and POWER O.I.S. prevent blurring from both subject motion and hand-shake. Once you’ve selected the iA Mode, the detection and correction functions go to work to give you beautiful images with maximum ease.

While most rugged cameras are basic point-and-shoot models wrapped up in a tough shell, the FT3 has the photographic talents to justify its premium price. It’s fast, capturing a shot within two seconds of switching on. Successive shots were just 0.9 seconds apart – one of the fastest times we’ve seen from a compact camera. Continuous shooting was at 2.5fps and lasted for seven shots. With a fast SDHC card it could take another burst of seven shots with just one second to catch its breath. The controls are fairly simple, with little in the way of manual tweaks, but key features such as ISO speed, white balance and continuous mode are quick to access via the Q.Menu button.
Its 2.7-inch 230,000-dot Intelligent LCD with anti-reflective coating and has a robust design provides water resistant to 12m, shockproof to 2m, frost resistant up to 14 º F (-10 ° C) and dustproof as stated earlier. Sony has just announced a pair of Honeycomb tablets in a press event in Tokyo, called the S1 and the S2, both of which are still codenames according to Sony. It has made its 9.4-inch Sony S1 and 5.5-inch dual-screened S2 Honeycomb tablets official with a press event in Tokyo recently. We’ve been hearing about these since mid-February, and recently the Japanese paper Nikkei has said Sony has plans to enter the U.S. market before the end of Summer 2011.
The S1 is a 9.4-inch tablet with an off-center of gravity design that supposedly makes it easier to grip and more comfortable to hold. Kunimasa Suzuki, Deputy President of Sony’s consumer products and services group likens it to holding a magazine. The S2 is a 5.5-inch dual-screened tablet that has the ability to use the screens as one large canvas, or feature specially coded applications running in each independently.
Both the S1 and S2 house Nvidia Tegra 2 processors, and the ability to integrate with other Sony products. And they both sport the Playstation Suite, like the new Xperia Play smartphone. An example was given where the S1 can act as a remote for Bravia marked equipment. Both the S1 and S2 will be available globally this fall.

MSI releases Core i3-based CX640, CR640 laptops…

MSI CX640 and CR640 Laptops
MSI has been quite active since the beginning of the year so we are not very surprised to discover the company rolling out the new laptop models named CX640 and CR640, running on Intel Core i3-2310M processors, both notebooks sport 15.6-inch displays, 4GB of RAM, 500GB hard drives and a pair of USB 3.0 ports each. Those hard drives are supposed to be extra-protected from drops and shocks as the disk is in the middle of the chassis and housed inside a unique casing.
MSI also assures that these C Series notebooks will boot up twice faster than standard notebooks. Presumably, MSI means notebooks in the same class. With these specifications, the CX640 and CR640 are nice, but not that far off from standard.

The major difference between these two portable machines is that the silvery CX640 hosts NVIDIA GeForce GT 520M graphics with Optimus technology, and the black CR640 uses Intel HD 3000 graphics.

An ARM-based processor, made by Samsung Electronics that runs at 833MHz is also included in the BenQ R100 Tablet PC. Users can use it for reading and note taking, for writing, users can use stylus and write on the touchscreen in both easy and customary characters in English or Chinese. It weighs 720 grams and works with WiFi 802.11 b/g/n and Bluetooth wireless data transfer protocol.
